1,000 chefs simultaneously prepared khorkhog in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record and promote the traditional Mongolian dish internationally.
The event was held at Taij Khairkhan in Nalaikh District as part of the “Nomads” World Cultural Festival, which took place on August 21-23.
A total of 1,000 chefs prepared 1,000 servings of khorkhog simultaneously, with the record attempt made in the category of “the most people preparing khorkhog at the same time.” According to the organizers, representatives and judges from Guinness World Records attended the event to verify compliance with the record requirements.
The Mongolian Chefs Association first launched an initiative to register khorkhog in the Guinness World Records approximately 10 years ago, and efforts to achieve the record were carried out this year.
Khorkhog is a traditional Mongolian dish prepared by cooking mutton or goat meat in a sealed container together with heated stones. It is an important part of Mongolian food culture and is traditionally served to guests on special occasions.
The organizers said the event aims to promote Mongolian cuisine, nomadic culture, and traditional food heritage internationally and help develop khorkhog and other elements of Mongolian culinary culture as tourism products.
