To ensure that citizens of the capital city live in a healthy and safe environment, authorities have launched measures to capture stray dogs and cats, place them in shelters, spay or neuter them to prevent breeding, and humanely euthanize them.
According to a survey conducted last spring, approximately 1,000 stray dogs and cats are estimated to live in the camping areas surrounding Ulaanbaatar and Bogd Khan Mountain. Efforts to capture these animals are now being carried out in a coordinated manner.
Speaking about the campaign, Ulaanbaatar Mayor Kh.Nyambaatar said:
-While other countries are talking about artificial intelligence and space technology, we don’t want to keep discussing the issue of killing dogs and cats. If people have pets, they must also be responsible.
We will begin training on how to properly use netting devices to catch stray dogs and cats, how to handle and transport them safely, and will include street cleaning and service staff in this training.
We urge all residents to take responsibility for their pets. The city will also introduce certain incentives to support the work of capturing and managing stray animals.
