Mayor Kh.Nyambaatar received Stephen Doust, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Mongolia, to discuss expanding city-to-city cooperation on pressing urban challenges.
Nearly 46% of Mongolia’s population, about 1.7 million people, live in Ulaanbaatar, which accounts for 66.6% of the country’s GDP. The capital is pursuing a transformation into a smarter, more eco-friendly city through digital technologies.
Ulaanbaatar first joined the World Winter Cities Association in 1999, establishing early links with Prince George, Canada. Since then, city officials have worked with Canadian municipalities on exchanges and joint projects to deepen friendly relations and practical cooperation.
Mayor Kh.Nyambaatar stressed the importance of widening cooperation with Canadian cities within the bilateral relationship, highlighting proposals to introduce smart solutions for roads and infrastructure, strengthen capacity-building for civil servants, and advance Ulaanbaatar’s development as an eco-city through joint projects and programmes.
Ambassador Doust underlined the broad potential for cooperation, mutual learning and practical support on Ulaanbaatar’s most urgent issues.
