Starting from November 1, 2024, this Friday, the old Zaisan bridge in Khan-Uul district will be closed and prepared for dismantling, following the completion of necessary sewer connections to the new bridge.
The project, which began last year, is part of the city’s effort to reduce congestion. In September 2023, the west-side expansion of the reinforced concrete bridge was completed, allowing traffic flow to resume. Construction of the 21-meter and 18-meter beams for the city-bound bridge is now finished, and work on the 25.18-meter beam is at 20% completion.
From this Friday, the old bridge will be closed to traffic, and the old bridge will be dismantled after the connection of the sewage line to the new bridge is completed.
The old Zaisan bridge, built in 1968, has not undergone any major renovation since. Its condition has fallen below a service level rating D, indicating an urgent need for replacement. After dismantling, the old bridge will be rebuilt to match the newly constructed structure on the west side, ensuring improved capacity and safety for drivers.
