Nationwide imports fell 12.6% in January, 2026, the National Statistics Office reported, driven in large part by a sharp drop in vehicle purchases.
The office said imports of passenger cars declined by USD 73.1 million, a 52.5% decrease from the previous year, equivalent to 9,900 fewer cars. Truck imports also fell substantially, down USD 36.1 million (a 61.2% decline), or about 1,300 vehicles.
The office identified a steep reduction in vehicle spare-parts imports as a major contributor to the overall fall: parts imports were down USD 52.5 million, or 69.1%.
Major sources of Mongolia’s imports in the period were listed as: China (37.1%), Russia (31.1%), Japan (8.9%), Republic of Korea (2.7%) and Germany (2.8%), India (2.2%).
