The investigation into the 2011 death of Filipino national Terril Atienza has been officially reopened. The Office of the Prosecutor General has annulled Prosecutor's Decision No. 58, which originally closed the case on January 24, 2012.
Following the cancellation of the dismissal, the investigation resumed on December 16. The Office of the Prosecutor General has formally recognized Terril Atienza’s eldest daughter, Riel Atienza, as the legal victim (representative of the deceased). Prosecutors met with her to explain her legal rights and obligations, take her official statement, and present the case files for review.
According to a report posted by journalist S.Budragchaa, the legal team arrived at the Criminal Police Office around 8:00 PM yesterday. Riel Atienza, accompanied by her lawyer B.Purevsuren and journalist S.Budragchaa, is currently reviewing the evidence and case history.
In a significant move, Riel Atienza announced that the family has granted journalist S.Budragchaa full power of attorney to represent the Atienza family throughout the retrial process.
